SL Life Lessons: Lessons From The Ant

Ant-individual- copyThe ant. Arguably the most harmless, unassuming, non- threatening bug many of us have encountered. Yet there are lessons we can learn from this tiny creature.

Have you ever seen how an ant responds to an obstacle in its path? Despite the size of the obstacle, some of which are much larger than the ant, it will relentlessly find a way to overcome the impediment. For example, if you place an object in front of a forward moving ant, the ant may go around, over or underneath the object. Depending on the size of the object, the ant may move it. According to National Geographic, “ants can lift and carry more than three times their own weight.” Despite the obstacle, the ant will continue to move toward its destination or die trying.

In life, we face obstacles many of which seem overwhelming. But we, like the lowly ant, must find a way to get pass life’s obstacles. We must relentlessly go around, over or under life’s obstacles to reach our goals. In some cases we may have to figuratively move out of our path seemingly insurmountable obstacles.

So, the next time you’re faced with an obstacle, be like an ant and find a way around it.
